Twisted Horn
The Happiest of Hours
Petworth's Upshur Street continues to stay poppin' with the newest installment of the Hank's Oyster Bar family - Twisted Horn. This snacks and cocktails establishment is classy yet casual with drinks to die for and perfectly popable eats to keep you from being hangry.
Happy Hour
The Happy Hour is where it's at. Pop in for $4 1-1 martinis, Rob Roy's and Scotch and Sodas; $3 beers and $1 off anything else you could want.
I always want cocktails, so after a 1-1 martini, I dove into an Ideal Cocktail - gin, vermouths & grapefruit juice served up with a few Marcona almonds. Any cocktail that is served with a snack is a win in my book. It was light, bright and real. Simple, quality ingredients make for a delightful experience without the worry of headaches or sugar shock.
The Diablito - tequila, gin, pear & wasabi served up - is all of the things. Slightly sweet but spicy, smokey and easily drinkable. No matter what you fancy to drink - you will surely find an amazing libation for an unbeatable price at Twisted Horn.
EAT! Stop Crying!
In order to keep drinking the magical cocktails, you need some snacks to tide you over so you don't start crying like a drunken fool that is about to be attacked by aliens. You can choose from some tempting snacks, a hard decision I must admit. Things I ate:
- Gordy's Pickle Assortment
- Crostini Trio - I opted for Spicy Carrot, French Onion and Forest Mushroom
- Onigiri (Japanese rice ball) - Pickled Vegetable flavor
- And a 5 item Meat/Cheese board
- Duck Salame
- Paesano
- Il Truffelino Cheddar
- La Tur
- Fontina
If you don't know by now - I love pickled things. At Twisted Horn, they put that sh*t on everything - in the drinks, on toasts, in onigiri, on the cheese board.... EVERYTHING. What could be better? So I just got everything with pickled stuff on it - did I mention the pickled things are local?! They're from Gordy's of course!
Everything is great - there isn't much more to say. The snacks are expertly crafted and fulfill the salty, carby situation that is necessary for slamming cocktails at happy hour.
Yes, they did purposefully create a phallic symbol on the cheese board and I love it and a chef with a sense of humor. Go drink all the drinks and eat all the snacks at Twisted Horn!
Twisted Horn is the perfect place to drown your sorrows of the Crane & Turtle closing,
so head over there after work today for a perfect way to start the weekend!
